Laura Kierol Andrews, PhD, APRN, ACNP-BC, Assistant Professor for Yale University School of Nursing, received the Distinguished Nursing Alumna Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Nursing from Saint Joseph College (West Hartford, CT).
Andrews is the first recipient of this award, which is given to a SJC undergraduate or graduate alum who has excelled in nursing, assumed a leadership role in the profession, and exemplified the mission of the college.
Andrews was awarded in recognition of her leadership in developing the Medical Rapid Response Team (MRRT) at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, in addition to her role as a nursing educator at Yale University. While an undergraduate student at SJC, Andrews received the Nightingale award, the college's highest award for a nursing student, celebrating academic excellence and a commitment to community service.
Joyce Fontana, PhD, Associate Professor and Chair of the Division of Nursing at SJC, stated that Andrews "serves as an inspiration to our students, showing them what they can accomplish with an SJC education in nursing as their foundation. We are very proud to have her as an alumna."
Andrews is an Assistant Professor in the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing specialty track at Yale. She holds a joint clinical appointment at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General as a senior Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the department of Critical Care Medicine and manager of their MRRT. Andrews was featured in the Fall 2008 issue of Yale Nursing Matters Magazine for her work in developing and managing the team, which has reduced cardiac arrests in the hospital by 62 per cent. |
