YSN Faculty and Student Presented with Nightingale Awards
New Haven, CT — May 13, 2009
Two YSN faculty members, Jessica Coviello and Mikki Meadows-Oliver,
were recently selected as winners of the 2009 Nightingale Award for
Nursing Excellence in Connecticut. This program, begun many years ago
by the VNA of South Central Connecticut, honors nurses who make special
contributions to patient care. Also in connection with this program, a
member of YSN's Class of 2009, Pennilee West, was awarded one of five
Nightingale Scholarships in recognition of her potential as a
practicing nurse upon graduation.
Jessica Coviello
As an Assistant Professor and widely sought after clinical expert in
cardiac rehabilitation, Jessica's reputation and accessibility as a
clinical scholar in the care of patients with heart failure has led to
positive patient outcomes on local, state, and national levels. She
provides excellent care to her own patients and serves as a role model
for her students.
Mikki Meadows-Oliver
Mikki has been described as a "rising star" by virtue of her vast
experience in caring for at-risk young urban families and children. Her
strong clinical and leadership skills extend beyond the greater New
Haven area, as she has become a key player in establishing a
clinical/scholarly exchange program between the Yale University School
of Nursing and the community of Managua, Nicaragua. In addition to her
regular teaching and practice responsibilities she serves on the board
of the National Association for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
