Sharon Schindler Rising '67 Awarded Purpose Prize for Reducing Preterm BirthsSharon Schindler Rising '67 received the $10,000 Purpose Prize from Civic Ventures. Rising was awarded for revolutionizing prenatal care by conducting routine care in 90-minute group sessions, and reducing dangerous preterm births in the process. A recent randomized patient study credited her "Centering Pregnancy" model with a 33 percent drop in preterm births compared to the traditional system. Rising's model has been adopted nationwide, and now she trains other caregivers in providing group care.
Rising was named the named the YSN Distinguished Alumna in 2006.
